High-rise Learning!

These cold mornings it is tempting to stay in bed where it is warm and protected - a comfortable place.

On the same cold mornings above suburban Melbourne one can see high rise balloons floating in the crisp morning air in the frail sunlight. Those people (for whatever reason) have chosen to leave warm beds and to step into a not-so-comfortable space in order to have a new and different perspective on Melbourne life. From the wicker basket their view of the city would be very different from those of us on the ground.

Staying in the details and comfort of daily routines can be soothing however lifting off into new learning and opportunities can offer new and different perspectives and growth.

All learning is stepping out of comfort zones, whether in thinking or doing, and engaging in new thoughts or actions.

Each of us, to stay fresh in our relationships and in our faith, need to continue to learn and grow. Staying on the ground and simply maintaining well rehearsed perspectives, does nothing to lift the spirit or our capacity to be open to the spirit drawing us on and out as well as up!

Choosing to participate in a workshop or a weekend intensive focusing on discipleship or leadership or the gaining of a new skill can bring delight and a lifting of one’s spirit and perspective. Make the decision to lift off into new learning and next time you see one of those balloons hovering over Melbourne celebrate the place that learning has in your life.
