Travelling Lay Preachers Initiative

The Synod Lay Preachers’ Association has a “bank” of accredited Lay Preachers in Melbourne who are willing to fill pulpits and lead worship throughout Victoria to assist congregations without a minister.

Any Church requiring a preacher should contact the co-ordinator, Lynette Bromage, either by phone on (03) 9735 2779 or by email at lyn [at] bromage [dot] org  Lyn will contact a preacher to see who is available on the required date, and then introduce the preacher and church contact.

Lay Preachers do not expect payment, but it is a courtesy to offer a travelling allowance which may or may not be accepted. The current rates recommended by the Synod are 38c per km (or 65c if the preacher is not in employment).

Congregations should understand that the Synod LPA committee do not hear the preachers preach, but asks for feedback from the local congregation to “match’ preachers and congregations on future occasions. All travelling lay preachers are accredited lay preachers of the Uniting Church in Australia.
