Theatre Triple Bill

3-together

The Theatre Triple Bill is presented by Artfull Faith and offers an opportunity for pastoral carers, chaplains and ministers to reflect on their own experience of supporting people through suffering, grief and loss.

 Haul Away and Prophet and Loss, two plays crafted by skilful theatre makers, present opportunities for audiences to engage with stories of human loss and grief, attending to the issues at play in our culture that work against healing.  Haul Away is a poignant personal family story of a young woman’s death, exquisitely told.  Prophet and Loss is an epic theatre performance that addresses themes of justice, healing and prophecy, drawing on stories told by those bereaved by work-related death and responding to the Book of Isaiah.  Moving from the domestic to the epic, the audience will reconvene on Wednesday 8 July to reflect on our own stories of Pastoral Care in Tough Times.  The remarkably versatile players of Melbourne Playback Theatre will facilitate audience stories and experiences and re-enact them.

The Theatre Triple Bill costs $75.00 per person for all three performances, or $140.00 per double.  Book your season ticket now by filling in the attached booking form, or phone the Centre for Theology and Ministry booking line 9340 8842 and leave a message.  Enquiries to Christina Rowntree, Arts Development Officer, chris.rowntree@ctm.uca.edu.au Bookings close Friday 24 April, 2009.

 “It’s a triumph of expression, of articulating one of the most extraordinary and saddest rites of passage one could go through, that of helping a sibling die too early from a terminal illness. The messy, ugly, lurching journey of it all is not mawkish, not sentimental. Ms Fortune presented her story unflinchingly, and invited us in to share the experience.”     Mari Lourey  - playwright

This stunning, award-winning show (2006) returns to La Mama.  Meet the irrepressible Ms Fortune – raconteur, philosopher and eternal optimist as she dances you through her stories of life, grief and garden parties. Laugh. Cry. Take comfort. No one leaves the theatre unchanged.

Glynis Angell creates five characters to tell the poignant story of a young woman's death.  Haul Away sheds some light upon the unbearable pain caused by life's passing. Fiona Roake’s performance of her hauntingly exquisite music underpins this unforgettable theatre experience

Written by Glynis Angell and Vanessa Chapple, directed by Vanessa Chapple.
Performed by Glynis Angell with live music and lyrics written and performed by Fiona Roake.  Design artists Richard Vabre and Marg Horwell.

My tent is pulled up, and thrown away
Like the tent of a shepherd;
Like a weaver you roll up my life
To cut it from the loom.
    Isaiah 38:12

“You walk the labyrinth. You carry Bible in your mind.  Burn and cleanse, suffer and grow, those dusty Bible words say.  That old prophet walks behind you, shuffling.  What good can come from her words? What justice?  What consolation?  You are in a dark place.  Prophet walks behind you.  Bible in your mind.  Darkness in your heart. Bruised apple in your green shopping bag.  Can these things be false and yet true?”
from Prophet and Loss written by Jane Woollard

Prophet and Loss is a powerful epic theatre performance, telling true stories of those bereaved by a work-related death, and traumatised by the resulting legal processes. This unique production also responds to the Book of Isaiah and the ancient spiritual practice of walking the labyrinth.  Featuring an award-winning team of theatre makers, Prophet and Loss addresses the themes of justice, healing and prophecy and their place in our world.

A collaboration between Creative Ministries Network, an agency of Uniting Care; the Centre for Theology and Ministry and an outstanding ensemble of artists Prophet and Loss is written and directed by Jane Woollard, with music by Deborah Kayser and Nick Tsiavos. Performed by Glynis Angell, Tom Considine, Fanny Hanusin, Helen Morse and Tim Stitz. Design Amanda Johnson, Lighting Brownwyn Pringle.  The season begins with a preview on 10 June in Wyselaskie Hall and the final performances on 19 June are booked for Wisdom’s Feast participants.
