Artfull faith

Throughout its long history, the Church has expressed faith through the visual, performing and literary arts. Our symbols and sacraments are given shape and form through artistic expression. The Bible contains poetry, visionary prose, story and parable. Our engagement with the arts can lead to joyful optimism and greater confidence in expressing our faith, and may provide expression of deepest lament and doubt. We proclaim the heartening role that the arts play in the life of the church. Christina Rowntree has been appointed Arts Development Officer in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania to:

• proclaim the role that the arts play in the life of the church
• encourage artists
• develop and support existing artist networks within the Synod
• stimulate collaboration between artists, congregations, agencies etc. to engage the arts in the ministry and mission of the church.
• offer training events and develop resources where skills, techniques and experiences may be shared
• inspire the church with models and processes for engaging the arts in ministry and mission which work
• create a forum for sharing news and information.
