About Face
“If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. If you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together”
Aunty Lila Watson
About FACE is a unique program of Faith And Cultural Exchange for young adults.
This is an exciting opportunity to spend time living alongside some of Australia’s indigenous communities. Experience another culture, form friendships, and explore and expand your faith through spirited action and faith-centred reflection.
Through About FACE you’ll learn about what it means to be part of a global community where different cultures co-exist with respect and understanding, and resources are shared responsibly and fairly. The program encourages an ‘about face’ in the attitudes and lifestyles of participants, with the aim that their experience will be shared with their congregations and communities.
The next About FACE will take place from 7th – 27th January 2012, providing a special opportunity to spend time with Congress (UAICC) Aboriginal communities.
Participants will spend two weeks in a placement with an Aboriginal community in Australia. The About FACE program is an exciting and strategic opportunity for young adults to participate in the reconciliation and covenanting process with Aboriginal communities in Australia.
The program will raise awareness of what it means to live in a global community, and to share resources and opportunities responsibly and with justice. It aims to create an ‘about face’ in the attitudes and lifestyles of participants, and to build relationships and bridges of understanding. About FACE is not simply an event for an individual, but is a shared experience with congregations and communities.
