Children & Families Ministry and the Uniting Church

In the light of the Uniting Church belief that people of all ages are called to respond in faith to God in Christ, the Church’s call is to be a body in which the diverse gifts of its members of all ages are used for the building up of the whole and that Christians of all ages are called to bear witness to a unity of faith and life in Christ, Children & Families Ministry in the Uniting Church could be summed up as “Growing in discipleship together”.

To encourage this growth in discipleship, the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria/Tasmania offers resourcing, encouragement, support, consultancy, training and advocacy for those involved in ministry with children and families – including leaders, ministers, councils of the church, congregations, presbyteries (and other regional groupings), agencies, families and children. Our hope is that people of all ages will grow in discipleship as they share, explore, discover, challenge, invite, wonder, create, change and express their faith together.

In accord with the agreed priorities of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania, those engaged in ministry with children and families across the Synod are called to

  • give sustained attention to growing disciples
  • cultivate and free spiritually formed, visionary leaders
  • seek and respond to opportunities for friend-making partnership
  • develop a culture of inspired innovation

Again, the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria/Tasmania offers assistance and support to leaders, ministers, congregations and presbyteries as they work towards establishing these priorities as a reality in the places they have been called to serve.
