Children & Families ministry co-ordinator for the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania

Chris is the Children & Families ministry co-ordinator for the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania. Originally trained as a pharmacist, Chris has served in a number of congregational, Presbytery and Synod capacities. Over the last decade his ministry activity has included working as a lay intentional interim minister, an SU Regional worker resourcing congregations in the South & East of Melbourne and, immediately prior to commencing with the Synod in 2008, as a Children & Families Ministry Coordinator for a large multi-congregation church. Chris is married to Beth and they have two fantastic sons (one in primary school and one in secondary school).

Finance Officer

I have been working for the UCA Centre for Theology & Ministry since March 2010 as the finance Officer, providing financial support to the Faculty and Ministry.  I work part-time in a very broad role where I pay the bills, initiate invoices, help with budgeting and answer any finance questions and problems which arise at the centre.

Receptionist

Bethany is the first person you’ll see when you come to the CTM! Coming from a Uniting Church background and previously working on Reception at a community services organisation whilst studying a Bachelor of Journalism, she began at the CTM at the start of 2011. She is passionate about social justice and writing, and happily assists visitors to the CTM as well as members of staff and faculty. She is also the person to speak to if you want to book a space at the CTM, or accommodation at Maclean House.

Executive Director of the Centre for Theology and Ministry

Ordained in 1980, Jenny has spent 15 years of ordained ministry working in congregational life and another 10 years in educational roles. Early parish work in Williamstown and North Ringwood was followed by ten years working as the Director of Lay Education in the synod, based at Otira College in Kew. Her passion for leadership development led to doctoral research in the development of leadership in a not-for-profit organization and studies in adult education. In the early 2000s Jenny was minister in the Pilgrim congregation in Adelaide and returned to Melbourne to take up this current position midway through 2009.

Heather Cameron is the Administration Manager. She started out her working career in university administration. She began working for the UCA when she joined the staff of  the Theological Hall in 1999. Prior to this she worked in publishing and in hospital administration.

Office Administrator

Merryn has been working for the Victoria & Tasmanian Synod since 2001 offering administration support to specific ministry areas such as children & families, youth & young adults, artfull faith, spiritual formation and lay education. Along with providing administrative support to the ministry areas and to the Centre in general, she also co-ordinates the Otira Theological Book Club and is the person to speak to if you would like to book accommodation at Maclean House.

Discipleship Educator (Young Adults)

Adrian is the UCA Vic/Tas - Discipleship Educator (Young Adults) and the founding member of morepraxis.org.au an online community and resource for social action and theological reflection. He has experience in a wide variety of ministry setting including congregational, chaplaincy, schools work, street work, activism, camping, alt worship, counselling, outreach groups and regional work.

Those who went to NCYC09 may have seen him helping people get into trouble as the ‘Submersion Day / Fed Square Public Rally’

Youth Ministry Coordinator

Drew Hanna is the Youth Ministry Coordinator and has been working for the CTM since February 2008. Before that he was a secondary school physical education teacher at Norwood Secondary College. Currently he is studying for a Bachelor of Theology. Drew is passionate about sport, theatre and helping the church to connect, enthuse and empower young people.

Continuing Education Coordinator

Sharon Hollis is the Continuing Education coordinator . Before this role she ministered in two congregations in the east of Melbourne. She has graduate qualifications in adult education and workplace learning. Her interests are in adult learning, practices for ministry, clergy self care and leadership development. She believes we are more effective ministers when we take time to reflect, to learn and to grow.

Professor of Church History

Katharine Massam is the Professor of Church History. Her teaching and research is focused on the history of Christianity, especially in Australia and in the cross-cultural encounter in Australian mission contexts.  She also writes and teaches in the area of Christian spirituality, with a particular interest in the relationship between prayer and work. Originally from Perth, Katharine was appointed in 2000 following teaching and research experience at the Australian National University and the University of Adelaide.

Professor of Systematic Theology

Chris Mostert has been Professor of Systematic Theology since 1996, following a similar teaching position at the United Theological College in Sydney. A graduate of the Theological Hall and the Melbourne College of Divinity, he ministered in three parishes in Tasmania, followed by a period of missionary service in South Korea. He undertook postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge and his doctorate is from the University of Sydney. He was ordained in April 1968.

Events Coordinator

From a corporate/media background, Andrew has joined CTM after two years of assisting in the relief and recovery of the Kinglake Ranges bushfire affected areas. Liaising with all three tiers of Government, VBAF (the distribution panel of the almost $400 million of donations), VBRRA, the Vice Regal office and a number of Community Groups. Born and bred in Melbourne, many years of travel and living overseas, Andrew has resettled in Melbourne – continuing his volunteer roles in the Ranges and brings many years of event/production coordination experience to CTM.

Professor of Ministry Studies and Missiology; Principal, Uniting Church Theological College

Randall Prior has spent most of his life in parish ministry. He began in the Theological College in 2003 and so came into the CTM community from its beginning in 2007. Currently he is Principal of the College Faculty and teaches in Pastoral Studies and Church Mission.

Lay Leadership Educator

Rohan coordinates education for lay leaders including the two specified lay ministries of the Uniting Church, Lay Preachers and Pastors, as well as encouraging the vocations of lay people in their everyday lives. His role includes support for the Period of Discernment, the Ministry of Pastor, as well as Lay Preachers and Lay Preaching. Rohan coordinates Lay Ministry Intensives as a primary opportunity for lay worship leaders and other lay leaders to enage in learning together what it means to carry and share the Christian faith within the Uniting Church.

Lynne’s role on the faculty is the coordination of field placements for candidates, liaison with placement supervisors and Lay Consultative groups, and the teaching of the Field Education units. Before coming to the Centre for Theology and Ministry Lynne had 25 years experience in pastoral care and teaching in a variety of ministry settings. She is accredited at a senior level with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education in Australia, and enjoys conducting CPE courses. Her particular interests are theological reflection on “real life” ministry experience and the training of ministry supervisors.

Artfull Faith Co-Ordinator

Christina applies her theatre and dance training, community festival and event management experience, and her passion for visual art and design, in congregations, presbyteries and Synod. She encourages arts in the life, worship and mission of the Church offering activities and events where skills and resources are shared.

For 18 years I operated and ran my own Engineering Company working as the Office Manager. In 2010 I was working as the PA to the Rev Paul Creasey at Springvale Uniting Church. I started working at CTM in January 2011. My work at  CTM involves administrative support for faculty and CTM Staff. I have 3 girls and l love photography.

Professor of Old Testament

Howard Wallace has been Professor of Old Testament since 1994. He teaches introductory units in the Old Testament as well as units on the Book of Psalms, Isaiah, Genesis and the interpretation of the Bible in art.

Professor of New Testament

Sean Winter is the Professor of New Testament. He arrived in Melbourne in 2009 following pastoral ministry and work as a NT lecturer in the Baptist Union in the United Kingdom. He trained as a Baptist minister at the Universities of Bristol and Oxford and studied under N. T Wright for his doctorate. He teaches in the areas of Pauline Studies, Hermeneutics and Preaching.
