Visual artists are invited to submit artwork in response to the theme Art for Wellbeing to be exhibited at Queenscliff Uniting Church as part of SacredEdge Festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival focuses on Indigenous, Refugee, LGBTI and sustainability issues….all in the context of faith and spirituality. Art for Wellbeing 2017 exhibition aims to reflect these themes and promote the value of diversity for artists working in both a contemporary and community Australian context.
How does your art practice support your health and overall wellbeing? How do the materials, elements or processes you engage in art making lead to greater wellbeing? The social benefits for those engaging in art making, or as audience viewing art, has been well documented. Many artists know the experience of “flow” when deep in their creative process. Apart from this experience, there is a growing appreciation of the value of art therapy programs in hospitals, agencies and programs for people with disabilities, dependencies and mental illness.
We invite you to respond to the question of art for wellbeing out of your own experience. Please offer an artist statement in a short paragraph to accompany your artwork.
